The Philadelphia Dance Company, affectionately known as PHILADANCO, has danced its way into the hearts of America with superlative technique, well trained dancers and an exciting repertoire of choreography. Fans, both old and new, will join the dancers on a tour through those ground breaking 40 years that helped shape them into the spectacular and electrifying company they are today. Over the years, PHILADANCO’s repertory has included the works of world renowned choreographers such as Milton Myers, Elisa Monte, Ron K. Brown, Lynne Taylor Corbett, Gene Hill Sagan, Talley Beatty and more recently Rennie Harris, Christopher Huggins, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar to name a few.
The original mission of the PHILADANCO, “to present the highest quality of professional dance performance, and to provide exceptional training for the improvement of skills for emerging professional dancers and choreographers in a nurturing environment while increasing the appreciation of dance among its many communities” has withstood time, budget cuts and the passage of over 45 years.
Since its inception in 1970, PHILADANCO has had a significant impact on the dance world. As a cultural ambassador representing the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia, its artistic direction and renowned national and international guest choreographers have developed a reputation of producing a dance repertory with passion, power, skill and diversity. Over 40 years, a stellar faculty (hand picked by Joan Myers Brown) has trained over 4,500 dancers in a comprehensive program achieving the highest level of technical skills in dance and performance.
